On December 29, 2009, Reena Kaushal Dharamshaktu made a historic ski-run as part of an eight-woman commonwealth Antarctica team, which undertook the 900-kilometer Antarctic ice trek to reach the South Pole, marking 60th anniversary of the founding of the Commonwealth. Till date Reena is the only Indian to have made this extreme trek to the South Pole from the coast of Antarctica in 38 days. She was awarded the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure award -- India’s highest honor in adventure and exploration. Reena has attended mountaineering courses at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) in Darjeeling and has taken part in and led several expeditions in the Himalayas.
